Add photos to an album while you review them on iPhone

An unmarked open album with blank pages sits on a sunlit wooden table.

The short answer

In PicWay, while you review a photo, tap Add to album. Pick one or more albums in the sheet, or tap New album, then confirm. In the same sheet you can also remove a photo from an album, but that row has to say Remove when confirmed.

How to do it

  1. Start a review

Open a review in PicWay. The photos come up one at a time.

  2. Tap Add to album

While you review, tap Add to album. A sheet with your albums opens.

  3. Pick albums, or make a new one

Pick one or more albums. To start a new one, tap New album.

  4. Confirm

Tap the button in the sheet. It says what will happen, for example Add to 2 Albums.

Apple’s steps for albums are in Add, delete, and find photos and videos in albums on iPhone (Apple Support, checked 2026-11-01). PicWay adds one thing: you can sort a photo into an album at the moment you’re looking at it, without leaving the review.

Can I pick more than one album?

Yes. You can pick more than one album in the sheet. The button says what it will do, such as Add to 2 Albums. When you add, PicWay says Added to 2 albums.

Can I make a new album from here?

Yes. Tap New album in the sheet.

Are adding and removing the same thing?

No. They’re two different choices in the same sheet. A photo comes out of an album when that album’s row says Remove when confirmed, and PicWay tells you The photos themselves won’t be deleted.

The fuller New album form on the Albums page also has a Remove from original albums switch. It starts off, and with it off the photos stay in their old albums too. Turn it on to move them instead. The move guide has the steps.

Which photos aren’t in any album yet?

See how to find photos that aren’t in any album, then go through them with Add to album.
