How to do it
-
Open the filter
In PicWay, open your library and tap the Filter button at the top right.
-
Tap Not in an album
Under Tidy, tap Not in an album. PicWay shows Finding photos outside albums for a moment, then lists the photos that aren’t in any album.
-
Narrow it down, or file them
Tap Favorite as well to see only favorites that aren’t in an album. To file a photo, touch and hold it and tap Add to album.
Apple’s steps for making albums are in Create and work with photo albums on iPhone (Apple Support, checked 2026-11-01). The steps here are for finding what hasn’t been filed yet.
What counts as “not in an album”?
A photo that isn’t in any of your regular albums. While PicWay works this out, you may see Finding photos outside albums for a moment.
Why does PicWay ask for access to all photos?
Because it can only tell which photos are outside albums if it can see them all. If you gave PicWay access to only some photos, it says it can’t show all photos outside albums and still shows the other results that match. To change it, allow access to all photos in iOS Settings, then try again.
Can I file photos while I swipe through them?
Yes. During a review, tap Add to album.
