How to do it
-
Open Location Services
Open Settings, tap Privacy & Security, then tap Location Services.
-
Tap Camera
Scroll the app list and tap Camera.
-
Choose Never
Tap Never. Camera can no longer add a location to new photos and videos.
-
Take a test photo
Take a photo, open it in Photos, and swipe up or tap the info button. It should no longer have a place saved.
-
Fix older photos separately
Photos you took earlier keep their location. Open each one, tap the info button, tap Adjust Info, tap Adjust Location, then tap No Location.
Why does Camera need to be set to Never?
Apple’s Personal Safety guide says location metadata in photos and videos can be collected only if the Camera app has access to Location Services, and gives the path Settings, Privacy & Security, Location Services, Camera, Never (Apple: Manage location metadata in Photos).
What else does Location Services control?
The same Location Services list covers every app that asked for your location. Apple’s location guide (iOS 27 edition) says you can open an app to review or change its access, and turn Precise Location off for an app that only needs your approximate position. Turning Location Services off completely stops many features from working, so changing only Camera is the narrower choice.
Will this fix photos I already took?
No. This setting only affects what gets saved from now on. For photos that already have a location, use remove location from photos, and do it before you share them.
Will I lose anything by doing this?
Photos with no location won’t show on the map in Photos. Apple notes that only pictures and videos with embedded location information are included in the Map collection (Apple Personal Safety guide). That is the main trade-off, and you can switch Camera back to While Using the App later.
