How to cut out the middle of a video on iPhone

The short answer

Open the video in PicWay, tap Edit, then Trim. Move the playhead to where the unwanted part starts and tap Split, then to where it ends and tap Split again. Select the middle section, tap Delete, and save as a new video or replace the original.

How to do it

  1. Open the editor

Open the video in PicWay, tap Edit, then tap Trim. The timeline shows your video as a filmstrip with a playhead in the middle.

  2. Split twice

Scroll the timeline until the playhead sits where the part you don’t want begins, and tap Split. Scroll to where it ends and tap Split again. You now have three sections.

  3. Delete the middle section

Tap the middle section to select it, then tap Delete. The sections before and after it now play back to back.

  4. Save

Tap Done when you’re finished, then choose Save as new video to keep the original untouched, or Replace original. A replaced video can still be reverted.

Can the iPhone Photos app cut out the middle of a video?

Not according to Apple’s guide. In the Photos app you drag either end of the frame viewer to change where a video starts and stops, and you can change playback speed for videos captured at a high frame rate (Apple’s iPhone User Guide, iOS 27). The guide doesn’t cover removing a section in the middle. If you only need a shorter start or end, the Photos app is enough.

Can I speed up just one part?

Yes. After you split, each section has its own speed and volume:

  • Speed: select a section, tap Speed, and drag from 0.5× to 3×. Voices keep their pitch.
  • Volume: tap Volume and drag from 0 to 200%.
  • Apply to All: use the same setting on every section.

Only want one part?

Select that section and tap Keep Only. Everything else is dropped from the edit.

Made a mistake?

Tap Undo. Every split, delete, and speed change can be undone while you’re editing.
