How to do it
-
See which kind of album it is
Open the Photos app, tap Collections, scroll to Shared Albums, and tap Shared Albums. Albums you made before iOS 27 keep the old limits until you upgrade them.
-
Upgrade if you want full resolution
Open the album, tap the More button, then tap Upgrade Shared Album. After the upgrade, newly shared photos and videos are in their original resolution.
What are the old limits?
| Item | Shared album from iOS 26 or earlier |
|---|---|
| Photos | Reduced to 2048 pixels on the long edge |
| Panoramas | Up to 5400 pixels wide |
| GIFs | 100 MB or smaller |
| Videos | Up to 15 minutes, delivered at up to 720p |
| Photos and videos in one album | 5000 combined |

What changes in iOS 27?
Photos and videos in shared albums you own are stored in iCloud in their original formats at full resolution, and they count toward your iCloud storage. Temporary shared albums don’t count (Apple). Starting in iOS 27, Shared Albums adds full-resolution sharing, new filters, emoji reactions, and new ways to invite others (Apple).
Can everyone use the new albums?
Participants whose devices aren’t on the latest software have to update or view the album on iCloud.com. Friends and family can also join and contribute on the web, even without an Apple Account or Apple device (Apple).
What did iOS 27.1 add?
Apple’s iOS 27.1 notes say Shared Albums in Photos adds editing captions and comments, avoiding adding duplicate photos, and a reminder before albums expire so participants can save important photos and videos (Apple).
