How to put photos from one album on your iPhone Home Screen

The short answer

Add PicWay’s Album rotation widget to your Home Screen, then touch and hold it, tap Edit Widget, and pick the album. It shows a new photo from that album every hour, and the round button on the widget changes it right away without opening the app.

How to do it

  1. Add the widget

Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the apps jiggle. Tap Edit at the top left, tap Add Widget, and search for PicWay. Pick Album rotation, swipe to a size (small, medium, or large), tap Add Widget, then tap Done.

  2. Pick the album

Touch and hold the widget, tap Edit Widget, and choose the album you want to rotate through. Until you pick one, the widget asks you to choose an album.

  3. Let it change, or change it yourself

It shows a new photo from that album every hour. To change it sooner, tap the round button on the widget, and PicWay stays closed. Tap the photo itself to open that photo in PicWay.

Adding any widget works the same way on iPhone. Apple’s steps are in How to add and edit widgets on your iPhone (Apple Support, checked 2026-11-01), and PicWay’s widgets show up in the same gallery.

Which photos does the Album rotation widget show?

It keeps up to 24 photos from the album ready. If the album has more than that, PicWay picks them evenly across the album instead of only the newest, so a long album doesn’t show just its last few days. Tap the round button on the widget, and the hourly change carries on from the photo you just switched to. What the widget shows is what opens when you tap it.

What if the widget says my album isn’t ready yet?

Open PicWay once, and it gets the album ready. If the widget is still asking for an album, touch and hold it, tap Edit Widget, and choose one. PicWay keeps up to 8 albums ready at a time.

Are there other photo widgets?

Yes. Besides Album rotation (small, medium, or large), PicWay has On this day (small or medium), Random (small or medium) for a random set of old photos, and Videos (small, medium, or large) for videos you’ve shot. There are also widgets that take you straight to Collage, Make a card, and Edit photo.
