This is a free online image converter for PNG to JPG, WebP to JPG, JPG to PNG and other format pairs, and it needs no sign-up. Choose your images on this page, pick JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP or TIFF, and the converted files are made in your browser. It also opens iPhone HEIC photos. Transparent areas get a background color when the new format has no transparency, and location is removed by default.

## How to do it {#steps}

1. **Choose your images**: Choose up to 50 images with the box above, or drop them on it. HEIC, JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP and TIFF files all work.
2. **Pick the output format and settings**: Choose the format under “Convert to”. For JPG, WebP and AVIF, set the quality. For JPG and BMP, choose the background color for transparent areas. Leave “Remove location” on if you plan to share the images.
3. **Download**: Download each converted image, or take them all in one ZIP.

## Which format to pick {#pick}

Different formats are good at different jobs, and the converter lets you move a file between all of them.

- **JPG** is the format that opens everywhere. Use it for photos you will send, print or upload.
- **PNG** keeps sharp edges and transparency. Use it for screenshots, logos, and images with text. A photo saved as PNG is much bigger than the same photo as JPG.
- **WebP** makes smaller files than JPG at a similar look, and every current browser can show it. It is a good choice for images on a web page.
- **AVIF** is usually the smallest of the three. Some older apps cannot open it.
- **GIF** has only 256 colors, so use it for simple graphics, not photos.
- **BMP** and **TIFF** are large, uncompressed formats that some older software and print workflows still ask for.

## Transparent images {#transparency}

Transparency lives in the PNG, WebP, AVIF and TIFF formats, and in GIF as an on/off switch. JPG and BMP cannot hold it. When you convert a transparent image to JPG or BMP, the see-through parts are filled with the background color you choose, white by default. If you need to keep the transparency, save as PNG or WebP.

## Animated files {#animation}

Animated GIF, WebP and PNG files convert to a single still image: the first frame. The result row tells you when that happened. This tool does not create or convert animations.

## Color and hidden info {#metadata}

Photos can carry a color profile and EXIF data such as the capture date, the camera, and sometimes the GPS location. JPG, PNG and WebP can hold both, so the converter keeps the Display P3 profile there and removes the location by default. **Remove all camera and date info** clears the rest. AVIF, GIF, BMP and TIFF results are saved in sRGB with no camera or date info, so choose JPG, PNG or WebP if you need that kept. Rotated photos come out upright, with the orientation tag reset.

## Limits {#limits}

You can add up to 50 images at a time, up to 200 MB each. Camera RAW files are not supported, and neither is HEIC as an output format. Very large images are shrunk if the chosen format cannot handle that many pixels, and the result row says so.

## Convert on your iPhone with PicWay {#picway}

You can also do this on your iPhone. In PicWay, find **Convert format** and choose JPG or PNG. The copy is saved to the **PicWay Conversions** album in Photos. For the HEIC steps, see [How to convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone](https://picway.app/guides/convert-heic-to-jpg-iphone/).

## Frequently asked questions {#faq}

### How do I convert PNG to JPG? {#png-to-jpg}

Choose your PNG files above, set “Convert to” to JPG, and download the result. A JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a background color, white by default. The JPG is usually much smaller than the PNG, and the quality slider starts at 92%.

### How do I convert WebP to JPG? {#webp-to-jpg}

Choose your WebP files above and set “Convert to” to JPG. Common WebP files open, and a WebP with transparency gets a background color because JPG cannot be see-through. A WebP that is animated is converted as one still image, its first frame.

### How do I convert JPG to PNG, or AVIF and HEIC to PNG? {#jpg-to-png}

Choose your files above and set “Convert to” to PNG. JPG, AVIF and HEIC files all work as input. A PNG does not add detail that the JPG lost, and it is usually much larger, so use PNG when you need sharp edges or transparency in later edits. PNG keeps the Display P3 color profile when the photo has one.

### Which image formats can I convert between? {#formats}

You can convert HEIC, JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP and TIFF files into JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP or TIFF. HEIC can be read but not written, and camera RAW files are not supported. The tool detects the real format from the file itself, so a wrong file extension does not matter.

### Is my image sent to a server? {#does-it-upload}

This web tool has no server that receives the image file: it is opened and converted inside this browser tab. When you pick WebP, AVIF, GIF or TIFF as the output, the code that writes that format is loaded when you choose it.

### Which format should I choose: JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF? {#which-format}

Choose JPG for photos that must open anywhere, PNG for screenshots, logos and anything with transparency, and WebP or AVIF for web pages where small files matter. AVIF files are usually the smallest, and a few older apps cannot open WebP or AVIF yet. If you are unsure, JPG is the safe choice for photos.

### What happens to a transparent PNG when I save it as JPG? {#transparent}

JPG and BMP have no transparency, so the transparent areas are filled with a background color. The color is white by default and you can pick another one with the color box, which only appears for JPG and BMP. The result row tells you when transparent areas were filled. PNG, WebP, AVIF and TIFF keep transparency.

### What happens to an animated GIF or WebP? {#animated}

Only the first frame is converted, and the result row says so. This tool does not make animations, so an animated GIF becomes one still image. It cannot turn one animation format into another.

### Does it keep Display P3 colors? {#colors}

JPG, PNG and WebP keep Display P3 when the original photo has it, by writing the color profile into the new file. AVIF, GIF, BMP and TIFF are saved in sRGB, so Display P3 colors are converted to sRGB and the result row says so.

### Does it remove the location from my photo? {#location-exif}

Yes, by default. The location (GPS) is removed from JPG, PNG and WebP results, and the result row says when a location was removed. Turn on “Remove all camera and date info” to remove the rest of the EXIF too. AVIF, GIF, BMP and TIFF results carry no camera or date info at all, and the result row says when that information was left out.

### Will a portrait photo turn sideways after conversion? {#rotated}

No. The tool applies the rotation stored in the photo, saves the pixels upright, and resets the orientation tag to 1 in any EXIF it keeps. The converted image has the same side up as the original when you open it.

### What quality setting should I use? {#quality}

A quality slider appears for JPG, WebP and AVIF. The defaults are 92% for JPG, 85% for WebP and 60% for AVIF, and the slider runs from 30% to 100%. Those values are a balance of file size and detail, and you can move the slider up if you see blocky edges. PNG, GIF, BMP and TIFF have no quality slider.

### Does it work the same in Safari, Chrome and Firefox? {#browsers}

Yes for the main conversions. WebP and AVIF are written by the converter’s own encoder rather than the browser, so Safari, Chrome and Firefox produce the same kind of file. What can differ is how the browser opens the source: some browsers cannot read AVIF or HEIC on their own, and the tool then uses its own decoder.

### What if my file is damaged or has the wrong extension? {#bad-file}

The tool checks what is inside the file, not its name. A text file renamed to .jpg or a truncated image is not converted, and the row shows an error instead of a download. An image with the wrong extension, such as a PNG named .jpg, is converted normally.

### How many images can I convert at once? {#how-many}

Up to 50 images at a time, 200 MB each. When two or more are done, one button downloads them all as a ZIP. If you change the format or any setting, the finished results are redone with the new setting.

### Is there a page just for iPhone HEIC photos? {#heic}

Yes. The HEIC to JPG converter is the page for iPhone photos in HEIC format and explains the iPhone side of it. This page does the same conversion plus every other format pair.
