This is a free online tool for anyone who needs to fix the location or date stored inside a photo, and it needs no sign-up. Choose the photo on this page, click the map or type coordinates for a new location, and change the date, time and time zone if you need to. The original values are shown next to each field. Then save the edited photo as a new file.

## How to do it {#steps}

1. **Choose the photo**: Pick a JPG or HEIC photo. The page reads its location, date, time zone and camera fields and shows them as the original values.
2. **Change what you need**: Click the map, search for a place or type coordinates. Set a new date and time. The time zone is optional. Edit the camera, author or description if you want.
3. **Save the new photo**: Save the edited photo. The page reads the new file back and shows the location and date it now holds.

## Change a photo’s date, time and GPS location {#change}

Choose the photo, type a new date and time (the time zone is optional), then click the map or type coordinates to set a new GPS location. The original values are shown next to each field. When you save, you get a new copy of the photo with your changes.

## What you can change {#what}

The tool edits the info stored inside the photo file: the GPS position, the date and time taken, the time zone offset, and text fields such as author, description and copyright. It shows the original value next to each field, so you can see what you are replacing. The tool writes the EXIF fields you changed into a new copy. When you add, change or remove the location, it also removes the photo’s XMP/IPTC data so the old location can’t linger; that data may hold author, description or copyright details, so keep the original file if you need them, and decide before you save. A JPG photo is edited without re-encoding, so the picture is untouched. A HEIC photo is converted to JPG first, keeping its Display P3 color profile, and then the info is written.

## Pick a location {#location}

Click the map to drop the pin where the photo should say it was taken. You can drag the map to move around and use + and − to zoom. You can also search for a place by name, type latitude and longitude, or paste a pair like `37.7749, -122.4194`. Tick “Remove the location from this photo” if you want no location at all.

## Change the date and time {#date}

The date and time you set is written as the date taken (the original and digitized times), and the modification time inside the photo info is set to match. The time zone offset is optional. Leave it empty to keep what the photo has, or press the button to use your own time zone. If you move the photo to a different time, the Photos app on iPhone files it under the new date once you add the edited file.

## Limits {#limits}

One photo at a time, up to 200 MB. For a JPG, the edit changes the info stored in the file only; a HEIC photo is saved as a new JPG. It can’t change info that an app keeps outside the file. Editing a date or place to misrepresent when or where something happened can mislead people. Use it to correct honest mistakes, like a camera clock set to the wrong time zone.

## On your iPhone with PicWay {#picway}

In PicWay you can fix a photo’s date or place on the phone. Open a photo in the library and tap its date to open the **Adjust info** sheet. It lets you set the date and time, search for an address or place, or tap **Remove location**. A [guide on removing locations](https://picway.app/guides/remove-location-from-photos-iphone/) covers the iPhone steps.

PicWay isn’t on the App Store yet. [Get one email when it launches](https://picway.app/go/ot-1102-03).

## Frequently asked questions {#faq}

### Which photo formats can I edit? {#which-formats}

JPG and HEIC. HEIC files are converted to JPG first, because writing the info back into HEIC isn’t supported here, and the Display P3 color profile is kept.

### Will changing the date move the photo in my Photos app? {#sorting-changes}

Yes. The Photos app sorts by the capture time stored in the file. After you add the edited file, the photo appears at the new date. The original photo in your library isn’t changed, so delete it yourself if you don’t want both.

### How does the place search work? {#place-search}

The photo file is processed inside your browser, and this page has no server that receives it. You type a name and press Search. The name is sent to OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim service, which returns matching places. Showing the map requests map tiles around the pin from OpenStreetMap’s tile server (tile.openstreetmap.org), which tells it that approximate location.

### What is the time zone offset for? {#timezone}

It lets apps tell when the photo was taken in absolute time. Camera clocks store local time without a zone. Newer files add an offset such as +08:00 so apps can tell when the photo was taken in absolute terms. If you set one, use the zone of the place where the photo was taken; leave it empty to keep what the photo has. The “Use my time zone” button fills in your own zone, which fits only if you took the photo there.

### Will social apps show the new location? {#social-apps}

That depends on the app. The saved file holds the new location, and the page reads it back so you can check before you share it. Whether another app shows or keeps that location is up to the app, and this tool can’t promise it.

### What can I change? {#what-can-change}

The GPS location, the date and time taken, the time zone offset, and text fields such as camera make and model, author, description and copyright.

### Can I see the original values before I change them? {#original-values}

Yes. Each field shows “Original: …” next to it, so you can see what you are replacing.

### Can I type coordinates instead of clicking the map? {#type-coordinates}

Yes. Type latitude and longitude, or paste a pair like 37.7749, -122.4194. Latitude must be between −90 and 90, and longitude between −180 and 180.

### Can I remove the location instead of changing it? {#remove-instead}

Yes. Tick “Remove the location from this photo” and the saved file has no location.

### How do I check what the saved photo contains? {#check-saved}

After you save, the page reads the new file back and shows the location and date it now holds, so you can check before you share it.

### Do I need to sign up for an account? {#no-signup}

No. There is no sign-up. Open this page, choose your file and download the result.
