To send a large video from iPhone to iPhone, use AirDrop: open the video in Photos, tap Share, and choose AirDrop. Both iPhones need AirDrop turned on. If the other person isn’t nearby, Apple’s Mail Drop can send attachments up to 5 GB by email.

## How to do it {#steps}

1. **Check AirDrop on both iPhones**: On each iPhone, open Control Center, touch and hold the top-left group of controls, and tap AirDrop. Choose Contacts Only or Everyone for 10 Minutes, and make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are on.
2. **Select the video and tap Share**: In the Photos app, open the video, tap the Share button, and choose AirDrop. For several videos, tap Select, tap each one, then tap Share.
3. **Pick the other iPhone**: Choose the other iPhone when it appears under AirDrop. Apple says the shared items are added to the recipient’s Photos library.
4. **Not nearby? Make it smaller or use email**: If you can’t AirDrop, open PicWay and tap Compress to make a smaller copy of the video, or send it as an email attachment using Mail Drop.

## AirDrop: the quickest way when you are together {#airdrop}

[Apple’s Share guide](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/share-photos-and-videos-iphf28f17237/ios) says you can use AirDrop to share photos and videos with anyone nearby on an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Vision Pro. To send from one iPhone to another, each iPhone needs to be turned on, unlocked, and have AirDrop turned on. Items you send this way are added to the recipient’s Photos library.

[Apple’s AirDrop page](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/use-airdrop-to-send-items-to-nearby-devices-iphcd8b9f0af/27/ios/27) adds two things to check if it will not work:

- Both devices need Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on.
- The recipient’s AirDrop setting must be Contacts Only or Everyone.

## Mail Drop: when the other person is far away {#mail-drop}

[Apple’s Mail Drop limits page](https://support.apple.com/en-us/108329) says you can send attachments up to 5 GB from the Mail app on your iPhone, and they don’t count against your iCloud storage. Recipients have 30 days to download them. Apple also notes the recipient’s email app might have a smaller limit.

## Which way to choose {#compare-ways}

| Situation | Best fit | Source |
|---|---|---|
| In the same room | AirDrop | Apple’s Share guide |
| Far away, one big file | Mail Drop, up to 5 GB | Apple’s Mail Drop page |
| An hour of footage | Cloud storage | Suggested by Clean Email |

## Adjust the file format before sharing {#file-format}

In the Photos app, open a video, tap Share, then tap Options. Apple’s guide lists three choices: Automatic for the best file format for the destination, Current to prevent a file format conversion, and Most Compatible, where files may convert to JPEG or MOV.

## When a smaller copy helps {#shrink-first}

If the video is huge and you have slow internet, PicWay can make a smaller copy before you send it. It offers **Standard compression** and **Strong compression**, and keeps the original until you have compared the two and deleted it yourself.

The new video can have a lower resolution. Standard compression outputs at most 1920 px on the longest side, and Strong compression at most 1280 px. Videos already smaller than that are not enlarged. If a compressed copy would save less than 10%, PicWay discards it and leaves the original untouched.

## Quick answers {#faq}

### Does AirDrop work without Wi-Fi? {#faq-wifi}
Apple says both the sender and recipient should have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on.

### Is there a size limit for AirDrop? {#faq-limit}
The pages we checked don’t state one, so we can’t give a number. If AirDrop fails on a very long video, try Mail Drop or a cloud link.

### Where does the video land on the other iPhone? {#faq-where}
Apple says items shared this way are added to the recipient’s Photos library.

### Do I have to compress before AirDrop? {#faq-compress}
No. Compress only if you want a smaller file, and expect a lower resolution on larger videos.
