In PicWay, tap the + next to the search box on the Albums page, name the album, and under Start with choose Pick by rule. Pick a source album, a date range, a city, or a type, then turn on Remove from original albums. The photos leave those albums but stay in your library. The rule is used once, when you create the album.

## How to do it {#steps}

1. **Start a new album**: On the Albums page in PicWay, tap the + next to the search box, then enter an Album name.
2. **Pick by rule**: Under Start with, choose Pick by rule. Choose source albums, limit to a date range, choose cities, choose types, or turn on Favorites only. Leave source albums, cities, and types empty to not limit them.
3. **Choose whether to move**: After you choose source albums, turn on Remove from original albums to move the photos. Leave it off to keep them in their old albums too.
4. **Review, then create**: Tap Review & pick to see what matches, then tap Create.

Apple’s steps for adding photos to albums are in [Add, delete, and find photos and videos in albums on iPhone](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/edit-and-organize-albums-iphee7aff030/ios) (Apple Support, checked 2026-11-01). PicWay adds one thing to that: choosing the photos by rule, and moving them out of their old albums in the same step.

## Will the album update by itself later? {#one-time-rule}

No. The rule is used once, when you create the album. After that you can add photos any time, but the album doesn’t follow the rule.

## Does moving delete my photos? {#moving-keeps-photos}

No. With **Remove from original albums** on, the photos leave the albums you chose but stay in your library. With it off, they stay in their old albums too. Some albums don’t allow removing photos, and then the switch can’t be turned on. If a removal fails after the photos are added, PicWay tells you which albums it couldn’t take them out of.

## Can I add photos by rule to an album I already have? {#existing-album}

Yes. Open the album and choose **Add photos by rule** or **Pick photos to add**.

## Which places can I choose? {#places}

Cities only. PicWay shows places by city, and you can leave it empty to not limit by place.
