Crop out what you can, then cover the rest. In Photos, Markup lets you draw over text with a pen at full opacity. PicWay has a Blur out box that blurs or pixelates the area you drag it over. Save as a new copy, then zoom in to check nothing can still be read.

## How to do it {#steps}

1. **Take the screenshot and crop first**: Press the side button and the volume up button together, tap the thumbnail in the lower left, and drag the handles to crop out anything that doesn’t need to be there. Cropping first leaves less to cover.
2. **Cover text with Markup**: Tap the Markup button, pick the pen, set the opacity slider to full, choose a solid color, and draw over the name or number until nothing shows through. A translucent marker leaves text readable, so don’t use one.
3. **Or blur it in PicWay**: Open the screenshot in PicWay, tap Edit, then tap Markup. Tap Blur out, drag the box over the name, number, or face, and resize it with the handles. Pick Blur or Pixelate, then slide Intensity until you can’t read it.
4. **Save as a new copy**: In PicWay, save as a new photo so the original screenshot is kept. Send the new copy, and keep or delete the original on purpose.
5. **Zoom in and check**: Open the result, pinch to zoom, and check every covered area, including small text in the corners and the status bar.

## Which tool should I use? {#which-tool}

Apple’s screenshot guide covers the first two steps: tap the thumbnail, then **Crop** by dragging the handles, or **Annotate** with the Markup tools ([Apple: Take a screenshot on iPhone](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/iphc872c0115/ios), iOS 27 edition). Apple’s Markup guide describes drawing with a pen, marker, or pencil and changing the line weight, opacity, and color ([Apple: Draw and handwrite with Markup](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/iph893c6f8bf/ios)). It doesn’t describe a blur or pixelate box, so cover text with a solid, fully opaque line.

## What does PicWay add? {#picway-blur}

In PicWay’s Markup, **Blur out** puts a box in the middle of the picture that you drag over the part to hide and resize with handles. You choose **Blur** or **Pixelate** and set the **Intensity**. The details are on the [blur part of a photo](https://picway.app/blur-part-of-photo/) page.

## What can still give you away? {#what-leaks}

- **Small text.** Scroll bars, notification banners, tab titles, and the status bar often hold a name or account.
- **Location.** A screenshot is a picture of the screen, so the content is what matters. For ordinary photos, see [remove location from photos](https://picway.app/guides/remove-location-from-photos-iphone/).
- **The original.** If you edit in Photos, the original screenshot stays in your library until you delete it, so decide which copy you keep.
