Open the photo in Photos, tap Edit, then tap the Crop button. Drag the corners or choose a preset such as Square or 9:16 to crop. To fix a tilted horizon, tap the straighten button under the frame and drag the slider. Tap Done to save, and Revert later if you change your mind.

## How to do it {#steps}

1. **Open the photo and tap Edit**: In the Photos app, tap a photo or video to open it, then tap the Edit button.
2. **Open the crop tools and drag the corners**: Tap the Crop button. Drag the corners of the rectangle around the area you want to keep, or pinch open or closed. To change the aspect ratio, tap the lock at the top-right corner of the photo first.
3. **Or pick a preset ratio**: Tap the aspect ratio button, then choose an option such as Square, Wallpaper, 9:16, or 5:7.
4. **Straighten or tilt**: Tap the straighten button below the frame. You can straighten, tilt vertically, or tilt horizontally. Drag the slider, and tap the button again to switch between the adjusted version and the original.
5. **Save, or revert later**: Tap Done to save. To undo edits after you save, open the photo, tap Edit, then tap Revert to Original.

## Is there a faster way to crop? {#quick-crop}

Yes. While you are looking at a photo, pinch to zoom in. When it appears the way you want it cropped, tap **Crop** in the top-right corner, make any adjustments with the crop tools, then tap **Done** ([Apple: Crop, rotate, flip, or straighten photos and videos on iPhone](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/iph0f3ebb1dd/ios), iOS 27 edition).

## Can I rotate or flip too? {#rotate-flip}

Apple’s guide lists a button to rotate the image 90 degrees and one to flip it horizontally, both in the same crop view. Videos can be cropped and straightened the same way as photos.

## Does cropping change the original? {#original-kept}

With iCloud Photos on, Apple says edits are saved across all your devices. Cropping and straightening in Photos don’t destroy the photo: open it, tap Edit, then tap **Revert to Original** ([Apple: Undo and revert photo edits on iPhone](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/iph2413db0ab/ios)). While you edit you can also tap the undo and redo arrows at the top of the screen, and tap the photo to compare it with the original.

## What if the Photos app looks different on my iPhone? {#different-menus}

Button labels and positions vary by iOS version, and the steps above use Apple’s iOS 27 guide. If you can’t find a button, tap Edit and look at the tools along the bottom edge.
